First point: the reason China can push thru a highway in two years is because there are few, if any, environmental assessments done on such major projects. The bureaucracy you refer to is otherwise in this country known as the EPA and/or HHS, assessing health/enviro impacts of major projects;
2) of course, Chinese education iss trong and rigorous, given the extraordinary spread of education to the distant provinces, and high intelligence of chinese entrepeneurs, intellectuals, artists, etc. However, this must be assessed in light of other elements of education, for example the ability to question the common wisdom.
3) spend less, save more: an old saw, but that is hoisting onto the individual--American in this case--a phenomenon that might be different if the society helped cover things like health care. Also essential goods like food, housing, etc in China much less expensive even in relative terms than int he US--which is of course a function of the communist-party dominated one party system which also comes with its considerable downsides (to put it mildly), namely serious constrictions on freedom of expression or questioning of authorities.
So, a provokative idea, but from your first five seem seriously in need of nuance.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
